The humble bicycle remains one of the greatest inventions of the industrial age especially as we enter this new era of global austerity. In this article I’m talking about the merits of cycling but not as a leisure activity. I’m preaching cycling as an efficient, economic and life prolonging means of transportation.

I'm impressed and just a little more motivated to restart my cycle commuting next week. I have a much shorter trip but the frosty start to the year put me back in the car. So its good to get a reminder that commuting by bike removes much of the work induced stress and you just feel happier. The key thing is finding a good route. The town's cycleknutsford group will be a good source of local knowledge as they get started.

You claim to represent all types of cycling however i see no evidence of any real awareness for the more 'extreme' cyclist, no ideas of places to ride and such. Instead its been left up to us to go out and build our own things to ride with no backing or support.

John you make a good point and it is difficult to represent all forms of cycling. Why not send in a short article on what you have been able build up to generate some support. Good Luck Paul
