LATEST UPDATE 13:30 M6 collision junction 18 and 19 northbound from Highways Agency
Drivers using the M6 are being advised that the northbound carriageway of the motorway between junction 18 at Middlewich and junction 19 at Knutsford has partially re-opened following this morning’s serious incident.
An incident, involving a lorry and a minibus, happened at 9.10am alongside the exit slip from the northbound Knutsford Services
Trapped traffic was released past the scene using lane three of the carriageway and following Cheshire Fire and Rescue and Cheshire Police operations at the scene, lane three was opened to all other traffic, lifting the closure of the motorway from junction 18.
Lanes one and two next to the exit slip road onto the motorway from Knutsford Services remain closed while work is going on to remove the damaged vehicles, clear debris and clean up an engine oil spillage.
Vehicles using Knutsford Services have been able to leave via an alternative service route as access onto the northbound M6 from the services has also been blocked by the incident.
While northbound traffic is moving past the incident scene it is slow from junction 17 at Sandbach as traffic funnels from three lanes into one at Knutsford Services.
The Highways Agency provides live traffic information via its website www.highways.gov.uk/traffic, local and national radio travel bulletins, electronic road signs and mobile platforms, such as the iPhone. Local Twitter services are also available at @HAtraffic_nwest and @HAtraffic_pen9 for transpennine routes.
Providing they can do so safely, road users can also call the Highways Agency Information Line (0300 123 5000) to keep up to date with road conditions.
