Acton Action for KHC Ladies 1st XI
The ladies knew they would be up against it but were the better side from start to finish and thoroughly deserved the win. As the game started Knutsford played their usual attacking style with midfield trio Sarah Locke, Gill Cheshire and Caz Orchard at their creative best – proving to be the decisive link between defence and attack, they were able to create chances which Knutsford were unable to capitalise on.
The first goal came however from a piece of individual skill from new girl to the side Nat Riley – who cut in from the left wing and ghosted past three Acton defenders to release a bullet shot which gave the keeper no chance and Knutsford took a deserved 1 goal lead.
It stayed at 1-0 through to half time – although Knutsford could have gone further in front had another couple of half chances been finished. It wasn’t to be however so coach and captain converged on the side at half time to congratulate them on an excellent first half – the only pointer was for more pace to be exerted across the pitch with the ball and attacking at players.
As the second half started it was again Knutsford who were in the ascendancy and before long they extended their lead as following an excellent move again involving eventual man of the match Riley who found Katie Allan in the D who was able to slot home into the corner. 2 nil soon became three as Heather Paton – excellent down the right wing gave the ball to Nat Riley in the D and following an ensuing scrap she was able to scramble the ball home, thanks mainly to excellent advantage played by the umpire.
Knutsford capped off a terrific afternoon with a goal from Captain Sarah Locke having found herself alone inside the D was able to finish easily. Four nil was the final score and Knutsford deserved the victory – just as important was a clean sheet with defensive five Ali Marsham, Tanya Westenraad, Kat Heine, Sarah Crabtree and Nicole Jackson repelled anything and everything that Acton threw at them. The ladies will look to build on this now and win all remaining games in the season – and hope for an Acton slip up in one of their games to secure the league title.
