Roller Coaster Weekend for Knutsford Mens 1st XI
Knutsford got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion with a demolition of a Macclesfield side without a win all season. The final score was 9-1 but on reflection Knutsford could have made it well into double figures with some masterful attacking play that just lacked the magical finishing touch.
Having beaten Macclesfield convincingly once this year Knutsford could have been guilty of complacency going into the match – this wasn’t the case however as the dark knights attacked at Macc from the first whistle making their intentions known and were rewarded with a couple of early short corners – which unfortunately they were unable to convert but did break the deadlock soon after when Dave Price found himself in space at the back post to slot the ball into an empty net – the first half followed this pattern as Knutsford maintained pressure and spent most of the game camped out in the Macclesfield half.
Adam Locke continued the scoring not long after the first and then Dave Price made it two for the day taking the score to three nil which left captain Mat Hodge to get his first of the day making it four nil for an excellent first half from Knutsford.
Half time was upon us and captain Hodge set his target at the men in black reaching ten goals and Knutsford were confident they would be able to achieve this after such an emphatic fist half performance so set their stalls out to continue this rich vein of scoring.
It didn’t take long to come as midfielder Dan Allan got in on the scoring to make the score five nil and Hodge went on to make it three for the day personally with Power popping up for his second. A defensive lapse meant Knutsford conceded a sloppy goal otherwise the defensive quintet of Hadley, Fletcher, Ward, Price Jnr and McCoy were rarely troubled.
It was left to Mike Power to finish off the scoring with a fine finish and at 9-1 Knutsford were looking for that illusive tenth goal which unfortunately didn’t come and as a result the scores remained this way. However a solid performance and Coach Armstrong was delighted with his players at the end of the game
