Lack of 3 Amigos Doesn't Dent Knutsford's vigour
Alderley Edge were visitors this week, Alderley have always been a tough opposition for Knutsford but confidence was high in the Knutsford camp. The game started at lack lustre pace and the early exchanges failed to wake any of the spectators. After 20 minutes Knutsford begin to take control and the with the players actually remembering the positions they were put in chances begin to happen. Knutsford to took the lead with Stanier drilling in a short corner past the Alderley Edge defensive line.
With Evans and Stanier taking control of the middle of the Pitch the wider players of Marsland , Merrill and Man of the Match Cunliffe and began to use there pace and cause all kind of problems for the defence.
Half time came and with Knutsford without the cushion of the second goal. Marsland asked his team to pick up the pace and they certainly did, Knutsford scored the elusive second goal with the returning Merrill bagging a nice goal. Alderley came back with a weak goal that woke Punshon up from deep sleep he had entered.
That was the kick up the as we needed as Stanier who had successfully managed to play in every position on the pitch during a 10 minute spell set up Cunliffe who opened his account for the team with a great shot from the top of the D.
Tensions mounted as one of the opposition hurt his foot and asked for his Mum to come from the side of the pitch with replacement shoes, Iron man Hopes revelling in the fact that a Mid twenty year old bloke was asking for his Mums help him with his shoes found his comments went down like a lead balloon and both skippers were asked to calm there players down.
More goals were to come with Evans And Wright combining and Evans claiming the simplest of tap ins and Andy Wright completing the 5 – 1 demolition. Knutsford move back to Third place and take on Mid table Bowdon next week, Hopefully with the return of Three Amigos to boost the alcohol unit count of the squad.
Great play from Riley , Ford and Todd ensured that Punshon could continue his sleep and gave the rest of the squad the confidence to play some attacking Hockey. Well done gang!!
