Ladies Continue Their March to Promotion
It looked like Spring had finally sprung this Saturday at Westfield Drive where Knutsford Ladies were entertaining a Newton – le Willows team eager for revenge, for their defeat earlier in the year to league leaders.
Captain Locke ensured that the crew were ready and well prepared, to ensure that their strive to league glory continued. This paid dividends early on when the leggy Allan calmly slotted a well worked goal to the corner, to ease the Knutsford tention. Liv Scott was soon on board to double the Knutsford lead and this was followed up with the dynamo Paton who scored shortly afterwards.
Knutsford were now cruising and with clear water ahead of them it was now time to enjoy the early Spring sunshine and create as many chances as they could. Lunt took full advantage and used a neat routine with Allan to score what was Knutsfords fourth. Scott produced Knutsfords fifth with some good work and Captain Locke put in the sixth with some stirling determination in midfield, which demonstrated the work and commitment that she has shown and enforced on the team this year.
The spectators by now had begun thinking about the “Half time drinks”, however they had not considered what was to unfold in the last 5 minutes of the first half. Orchard, “Orch” to her friends was to cap off, what has been a sublime season for her, with her first goal in the black for Knutsford. Not an easy chance but a well placed strike saw the Newton goalie sent the wrong way. Lunt wrapped up a cracking first half for Knutsford with another well worked goal for Knutsford and the half time interval was well received by both teams.
Captain Locke rallied her crew at the half time break and asked them to keep going in the second half, this was soon rewarded with Scott completing her hat trick following some creative work from the Paton on the right wing. Knutsford were soon rewarded a penalty corner shortly after this and Paton supplied the finishing touch to what was another impressive well worked move.
Scott added her fourth with a solo run mid – way through the second half and all was good in the Knutsford crew and the after match hot dogs were being visualised. Little did we know that Captain Locke was to complete her hat trick with two late goals to complete an outstanding performance by the Knutsford Ladies.
Promotion was now in the bank, but this crew of determined ladies will surely not settle for that !!! Two games to go and the title is still in their hands. Lets hope that in a couple of weeks the troop that Locke continues to drive forward makes it over the finishing line first.
