Captain Locke seals victory for Knutsford Ladies with Hat Trick.

By on March 23, 2009

The game began at a frantic pace with Timperley exerting pressure on the Knutsford goal, the impressive Marsham was on hand to thwart any Timperley attacks and it was not long before Knutsford found the back of the net with Riley slotting the ball away well. This seemed to be the catalyst that sprung the Knutsford Ladies in to action and chance after chance were soon to be created.

The hockey being played by Captain Locke and her crew was nothing short of superb as the difference in class was clear to see for the travelling spectators. Knutsford were simply awesome and went two up when a well worked move found Allan in the d and she did not have to ask twice to tuck the ball away.

Captain Locke was on hand to create and finish Knutsford’s third and by now it was turning in to a rout, Knutsford were able to slice and dice the Timperley defence at will and it could have been anyone’s guess at the full time score. Allan scored her second shortly before the interval and all was good with the Knutsford ladies as they began thinking about the champagne corks popping at the end of the game.

The second half began in the same fashion that the first had ended with all of the Knutsford Ladies trying to get in on the act and add to the score sheet. Heine and Orchard were now dominating the game and following some intricate stick work between the two, Locke completed her second goal to the delights of her fellow crew. The hat trick soon followed as the Timperley heads began to drop, and probably the best goal of the game was scored by Paton following a neat passing move between Locke and Allan, Locke found the unmarked Paton on the back stick and the deftest of touches saw the ball enter the Timperley net.

As the final whistle was blown the Knutsford Ladies broke into rapturous celebration, corks were soon flying, as each and everyone of the Ladies proudly reflected on what they had actually achieved this season. League winners, with fifteen wins, truly a brilliant season. Next season is sure to be a tougher campaign for the ladies, but they should now revel in the applause and the accolade of being Champions of Division 3.
