By on January 18, 2018

Contingency plans are being put in place by Network Rail, Kier Group and Highways England following the collapse of Carillion.

The contracting firm begun liquidation proceedings last Monday.

Current projects contracted to Carillion include the smart motorways scheme on the M6 near Knutsford, due for completion in 2019.

HIGHWAYS England has reassured motorists that ongoing smart motorway works will not be impacted by the demise of joint-contractors Carillion.

Carillion entered liquidation on Monday. Along with Kier, they are working on the smart motorways scheme between junctions 16 and 19 of the M6.

The project is due for completion next March.

Kier Group, which operates joint ventures involving Carillion on the HS2 high-speed rail and the Highways England smart motorways programme, said: “We have put in place contingency plans for each of these projects and are working closely with clients so as to achieve continuity of service.”A Highways
