Knutsford community specialist paramedic takes over @TeamNWAS

By on March 5, 2018

A paramedic from Cheshire is taking control of @TeamNWAS; an Instagram account run entirely by different faces from the frontline of North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

Carol Robertson is a Community Specialist Paramedic in Knutsford. She joined the ambulance service in 2002 and has worked as a technician, paramedic and urgent care specialist before taking up her current role in 2015.

Talking about what people will see her share on the @TeamNWAS account, Carol said: “I absolutely love my role due to the variety and the projects I’m involved with. My working work is varied and usually involves responding in my car and meeting with local health and social care teams.

“I educate local groups in CPR skills and talk about when to call an ambulance.  I also educate care home staff in frailty and I’m part of Cheshire East’s frailty training team.

“When responding to patients I look out for incidents where I can help someone to stay at home such as an older adult who has fallen.  I will assess any injuries and make a clinical decision as to what the patient requires but also liaise with Cheshire’s East Intermediate Team and or own GP to ensure the patient has all necessary equipment, care, medications etc to keep them safe within their own home and reduce any risk of further falls.

“Outside of work I’m often found procrastinating from my master’s studies! I enjoy socialising in any format, camping, festivals, gigs, meals etc and this year we have tickets for Ed Sheeran, Tom Kerridge’s Pub in the Park and the League of Gentlemen as well as a holiday to Tenby with several friends and their families.”

@TeamNWAS is the only UK ambulance service Instagram account run entirely by the workforce. Each week somebody different takes control of the account, giving followers a behind the scenes peek into what life as an ambulance service worker is all about.

NWAS employs almost 6,000 staff in over 300 different roles across the region. From paramedics, dispatchers and ambulance care assistants to 111 health advisors and urgent care practitioners – everyone contributes in one way or another to saving lives every single day and this is what the service hopes to share with the public.
