Police appeal following distraction thefts in Congleton and Poynton

Police are appealing for information following distraction thefts in Congleton and Poynton.

On 28 March and 6 April there have been three occasions where the two women have approached men and tried to engage them in conversation before making suggestive comments.

In two of the cases the men were touched inappropriately before discovering their jewellery or cash had been taken.

On 28 March in Poynton the women were seen to get into a waiting green saloon car, possibly a Ford Mondeo, on London Road near Aldi and being drive off towards Hazel Grove.

On 6 April there were two separate reports of the women approaching a man in the Biddulph Road area of Congleton. On each occasion they propositioned the men and when they refused, they grabbed hold of them. When the women left, one of the men discovered cash and jewellery had gone.

The women are described as possibly being of Mediterranean or Asian origin, tanned and between 25 and 35 years old.

One woman was wearing shiny black trousers and a short black jacket. The other woman was wearing a black low cut top.

PC James Atherton said: “This is an unusual distraction theft which has caused distress to those involved. If you have been subjected to this behaviour and have been a victim of crime, please contact police.

“I’d also urge anyone who sees similar suspicious activity or has any information to contact police.”
