Celebrate National Walking Month with free sessions in Cheshire

By on April 20, 2018

May is National Walking Month and Everybody Sport and Recreation is celebrating with a range of free walking sessions across Cheshire East!

Walking is a great way to stay active and healthy, socialise and embrace the beautiful surrounding countryside we have in Cheshire East. During the month of May Everybody Sport and Recreation is helping you get off on the right foot by offering people the chance to try out new walking sessions including Nordic Walking, Walking Netball, Walking Football and Step by Step Health Walks!

Lee Malkin, Sport and Development Manager at Everybody Sport and Recreation Commented, ‘National Walking Month is the perfect opportunity for us to help people in Cheshire East get more active more often with our Everybody Walking sessions. We have so much on offer from team sports to led walks; a chance to get outdoors, clear your mind, spend healthy time with friends & family, and a fun way to de-stress.”

You can also take part in the free Step by Step short walks in partnership with Walking for Health UK, in Crewe (from Crewe Lifestyle Centre) on Tuesdays at 10:30am and Nantwich (from Barony Park) on Wednesdays at 1.00pm. The FREE walks are ideal for anyone wanting to get back into exercise and time out for you!

Everybody has free Nordic Walking Introductory Courses as well as free introductory sessions to Walking Football and Walking Netball during May.

Simon Green, Nordic Walking Programme Co-ordinator, commented, “Visitors to local parks may have noticed people walking with what look like ski poles! Nordic walking is one of the fastest growing fitness activities with enthusiasts now regularly taking part in what was originally used by super fit cross country skiers as a way to stay fit during the summer and winter months.”

He continued, “At Everybody we have qualified Nordic Walking instructors to lead you on exciting trails and landscapes. In June we will be launching new Nordic Walking sessions in South Cheshire too!”

Walking Football  is a drop in football session for members of the public, mainly aimed at 50+ years old, or individuals, who have injuries and are recovering, with an emphasis on having fun and to stay healthy, in a safe environment. Walking Football sessions are available in Alsager, Nantwich, Congleton, Holmes Chapel, Knutsford, Macclesfield, Middlewich, Poynton and Wilmslow.

Walking Netball is a weekly session held at leisure centres in Congleton, Poynton and Wilmslow ideal for over 50’s, or anyone wishing to increase their exercise and activity levels in a fun & friendly environment.
