La Belle Epoque repairs put back
Town councillors have postponed repair work at La Belle Epoque in Knutsford following events taking place at the venue.
The council wanted to begin work at the start of January to fit with a rent-free period offered to the tenant until the end of March but have had to delay this due to a wedding planned at the end of the month, meaning that the work will not be completed until the end of April.
Knutsford Town Council are responsible for the repair and maintenance of the exterior of the building as part of its lease agreement with tenant La Belle Epoque.
Cllr Peter Coan said: “This is the only time that is acceptable for the work to be completed. The reason it has not been completed before is because we have never chosen suitable times. It has always been an inconvenience to the tenant, so it has been put off year on year.”
Town clerk Adam Keppel-Green said: “These works have been difficult to programme due to the impact it will have on the tenant’s business, but have been agreed to take place in late January 2019.”
The costs of the works were much higher than anticipated, he said, at £78,742, of which £20,170 was for scaffolding. The costs are earmarked from the council’s reserves.
