Council hails foster parent’s long service and dedication to care

By on January 21, 2019

Foster parents have been recognised for their dedication and commitment to caring for children at a ceremony held by Cheshire East Council.

Anne Bentley and couple, Ray and Denise Ellis, who collectively have 50 years of fostering between them, were among those recognised at a ceremony in Congleton. Other awards were presented to foster carers from across the borough in recognition of the way they improve the lives of young people.

Anne has been a foster carer for 25 years, having fostered more than 40 children from across Cheshire. Anne has two children of her own and currently has two girls in her care.

Ray and Denise have been respite carers for 25 years, providing overnight care ranging between one night, three nights and a week’s stay for vulnerable and special needs children and young people. This service provides a break for parents and for the children to experience new things.

The couple have looked after 16 children and young people during their 25 years service and currently have four children having regular respite care. They have three children of their own and nine grandchildren.

Councillor Jos Saunders, Cheshire East Council’s cabinet member for children and families, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the brilliant service of our foster carers. They have shown an outstanding commitment to fostering children and I can’t thank them enough for everything they have done.

“There are many children and young people who still need a foster home in Cheshire East. This would be anything from one day a week or a week’s short break respite, to every day for the remainder of their childhood and beyond.

“Our foster carers look after the most vulnerable children, often at short notice and at times of crisis. Foster carers are a highly-dedicated group of people, many who have worked for Cheshire East Council for years and who have dedicated their lives to caring for and nurturing children in need.”

Cheshire East Council would like to hear from anyone who wish to foster and who, like Anne, Ray and Denise, can offer a loving home to a child.
