Highways teams were dispatched to Little Heath Road in Christleton, Tarvin Road in Mouldsworth, Jack Lane in Moulton, Swanlow Lane and Glebe Green Drive in Winsford and Denhall Lane in Neston, where severe gusts of wind have caused trees to fall and block the roads.

Wind speeds of 62mph were recorded outside of Chester in Hawarden, Deeside at 3am this morning – the highest recorded wind speed in the UK at that time.

Public transport was unaffected during Storm Erik.

Cheshire Police have warned motorists to take care this weekend, urging them to ‘drive to the conditions’ and be careful around high sided vehicles and vulnerable road users.
