‘Joan and Jimmy’ play comes to Cheshire

By on February 18, 2019

On Saturday 2 March at 7.30pm, the award-winning Lion Salt Works Museum in Northwich, Cheshire will show ‘Joan and Jimmy’ by Blaize Theatre. This inspiring play is about the ups and downs in the fascinating life of the theatre director, Joan Littlewood. Her dream was to shake up the world by bringing pioneering radical political theatre to the North of England during the 1950s and 1960s. The show is part of the Cheshire Rural Touring Arts Spring season and tickets to this performance cost £9.50 per adult and £6.50 for under 16-year olds. Family tickets are available*. Bookings can be made by calling 01606 275066 or online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/cheshireruraltouringarts

‘Joan and Jimmy’ tells the story of Joan Littlewood and her one-time husband and partner Ewan MacColl (aka Jimmy Miller). Starting among the rubble of post-war Britain, the play shows how the pair embark on one-night stands of radical political theatre, eventually forming a travelling troupe of storytellers committed to overthrowing the established order of the ‘rich getting richer’.

Councillor Louise Gittins, Cabinet Member Communities and Wellbeing, Cheshire West & Chester Council said: “This fascinating play about the inspiring life of pioneering theatre director, Joan Littlewood promises to be as entertaining as it is thought-provoking. It encourages the audience to think about what ‘community’ really means to them.”

Written by Jim Woodland and directed by Mike Bettison, the play runs for 90 minutes and is suitable for children over 12 years old. There is free parking and doors open at 6.45pm.
