Fire breaks out at Cheshire industrial estate

Woodford Park Industrial Estate in Winsford is closed due to a fire, with a number of businesses evacuated.

Crews were called just before 3pm today to the fire, near the A54.

The blaze has engulfed towers of wooden pallets and fencing sending thick black smoke billowing into the air.

Five crews were originally sent to the scene, however that has now been escalated to 10, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service have said.

A number of roads have also been shut off to the public, including Leslie Road and Browning Way.

Diversions are in place and those living nearby are being told to keep windows and doors shut.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue said: “Firefighters are currently at a fire involving a large quantity of wooden pallets and fencing at an industrial estate on Leslie Road in Winsford. The fire is affecting part of a building close by. Firefighters wearing two breathing apparatus, are using two main jets to help put out the fire. Residents nearby are being advised to close windows and doors as a safety precaution.

“Road closures are in place on Oakmere Road roundabout and people are advised to avoid the area.

“Nearby industrial buildings have been evacuated as a precaution.

“Firefighters are also using a hose reel as well as two main jets to help bring the fire under control.

Police at the scene are also asking motorists not to stop their cars to take photos at is it blocking roads for emergency vehicles.

Winsford Swanlow and Dene Police tweeted: “Can we please ask that members of the public stopping their cars dead in the road at this location to take videos and that they refrain in doing so!

“This is putting a lot of pressure on the resources and stopping emergency vehicles from getting to the site.”
