Northwich’s Weaver Hall Museum brings WWII to life with historical re-enactors and a vintage dance

By on August 28, 2019

Visitors to Northwich’s Weaver Hall Museum & Workhouse can discover what life was like for soldiers, sailors and airman with ‘live’ historical re-enactors, ‘V for Victory’ on Saturday 14 September from 2pm – 5pm (normal museum admission prices apply*). In the evening, the museum journeys back in time to recreate the fun of the 1940s with a vintage evening dance from 7-10pm, costing £8 per person. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/cheshireruraltouringarts

Saturday’s vintage dance, which will take place in the Museum’s impressive Guardians’ Boardroom, will include an evening of waltzes, lindy hop and even the hokey cokey. Dancers are not required to be in period costume but would be welcome to do so.

Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing, Cheshire West & Chester Council, said: “This is a wonderful chance to find out through ‘V for Victory’ about the discipline and commitment required of the Forces during WWII. It is great that, come nightfall, this contrasts with the way wartime austerity and rationing are set aside in favour of dancing the night away. It is great that the vintage dance gives everyone a chance to join in.”

This museum is full of displays and stories about the history and industry of West Cheshire. The stories are told through films, reconstructions, models and displays of artefacts, which relate to local industry, market towns, transport, archaeology, and the building’s former history.

Weaver Hall Museum has been short-listed as a finalist in Marketing Cheshire’s prestigious Small Visitor Attraction of the Year Award 2019. The Annual Awards recognises excellence and outstanding achievement by local businesses and individuals working in Cheshire’s visitor economy.
