Coach receives praise for putting team on the road to success
A JUNIOR rugby coach from Manchester has received huge congratulations from sponsors for guiding his team to life in the ‘fast lane’.
Head coach of Manchester Rugby Club U13’s, Alan Toon, has done such a good job with his group of players that shirt sponsors, Mangoletsi, have given him a sports car to help him unwind during the close season.
During a season which saw Alan’s team compete in 23 matches, winning 19 of them, they managed an impressive 118 tries whilst conceding just 36.
The side also retained its trophy at a floodlit tournament at Macclesfield Rugby Club, reached the final of the prestigious Lancashire Cup and enjoyed a successful tour to Lytham St Anne’s, in which Mangoletsi also sponsored the tour shirts.
Alan explained: “It has been a great season for the team, retaining our crown at Macclesfield and winning the majority of our games.
“Reaching the final of the Lancashire Cup was also a huge achievement and is the first time an under 13’s side from Manchester Rugby Club has reached the final. We are all now looking forward to trying to repeat our success next season and go one step further.”
The UK’s largest and longest established Alfa Romeo dealership Mangoletsi, at Knutsford, was so pleased with the team’s achievements that they donated an Alfa Romeo 159 TI for Alan to use for a weekend.
“Alan has put so much effort and time into helping the team develop, that we felt he deserved something special to celebrate the end of the season,” explained managing director of Mangoletsi, Fraser Hudson.
