1966 world cup hero Sir Bobby Charlton to switch on the lights this Christmas.
The Town Council is pleased that Sir ‘Bobby’ Charlton CBE, has kindly agreed to perform the switch on of the Town’s Christmas Lights, at 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 25 November, 2009, in Canute Place.
There will be new lights this year, as the current lighting is no longer useable. The purchase will be over three years. We have to buy the Festoons, but the decorative motifs will be acquired on a lease purchase basis.
Reindeer and sleigh, with ‘Father Christmas’, will start near the Railway Bridge, progress along King Street, before arriving in Canute Place. This procession will take place after the lights switch on.
Cranford Café has agreed to stay open for refreshments during the event. It is hoped that all shops along the route will remain open during this time, and that it will be a successful and enjoyable evening for everyone.
