Much awaited play area close to completion
The initiative answers local people’s pleas for more facilities for young people, identified dueing consultation by Great Places Housing Group, landlord of the Longridge neighbourhood, and the Fire Service.
Now contractor Proludic is turning plans into reality. The long-awaited £50,000 play area – complete with a zip wire and a pod swing – will be on green land opposite the Longridge industrial estate. Local councillor David Heffernen will cut the first sod.
School children and young people put forward their ideas for play equipment, also including a ‘summit space net’, and helped to design a large-scale wildlife mural with artist Ralph McGaul.
Cllr Heffernen said: “I know how much this development is needed and wanted by residents including Andrew Hurdsfield, Matthew Baylem and Lesley Wilson who’ve really supported the project and made sure it got off the ground.”
A new steering group, part of the Community Spirit Residents and Partners Group, will carry on pushing for more improvements.
