Mobberley Rose Queen 2010
The Mobberley Rose Queen Festival takes place this year on Saturday 12th June.
The choosing of the Queen took place on Friday 12th February at the Victory Hall, with a fantastic turn out of children wanting to take part, plus Mums, Dads, relatives and friends offering their support. Victoria Britland [13] seen centre was chosen as this year's Rose Queen and is a pupil at Wilmslow High School, with Catherine Eadie [12] seen on the right and Grace Haselden [12] seen on the left being chosen as her Ladies-in-Waiting.
The Rose Festival is held each year on Hall Bank Field, Hall Lane, Mobberley which is a beautiful setting, ideally situated in the centre of Mobberley. This is the biggest event in the Mobberley calendar and pulls together all the good will and community spirit of the village.
The day starts with a procession through the village involving the children, dancers, floats, fancy dress characters and various bands from the surrounding area, returning to the Old Hall field for the Crowning of the Queen. On the field there is lots of entertainment for all the family including side stalls, refreshments, and amusements for the children. This is followed by an afternoon of dancing involving all ages.
Since its inception the dance displays have been an important part of the Mobberley Rose Queen Festival and includes the Mobberley Morris dance, known by morris dancers countrywide, which can be seen danced by both a senior and junior team. Two versions of the sailor's hornpipe are danced as well as a Scottish sword dance. The Maypole is a favourite amongst the children and places in the team are hotly contested.
The dancing is open to children of all ages and practices begin on 24th February at 5.30pm at the Victory Hall. If you would like further information please come along and speak to Joy Parkes or contact her on 01565 872013.
There are also a small number of roles still available for children wishing to take part or if you are interested in being involved with the Festival please contact Helen Mountney or Tony Cooke on 01565 872848.
