British Red Cross invites Cheshire residents to shop like a star

By on April 21, 2010

Customers will experience the full red carpet treatment and will be able to enjoy popcorn or cupcakes while shopping for the latest designer brands to raise funds for Red Cross Appeal Week, the charity’s annual fundraising drive. The first 50 customers will get Oscar style goodie bags and the Red Cross’s therapeutic care team will also be on hand to offer massages for tired shoppers who need some pampering.

Former stars who have visited the shop include Oscar winner Judi Dench who popped in when she was filming the TV series, Cranford.

According to Karen Jones, area fundraiser, British Red Cross: “ We want to encourage people across Cheshire to visit the shop on May 6 so that they can be treated like an A-list star while they are shopping for a bargain. It should be a fun experience and a different way to help vulnerable people. ”

This year’s theme is “With a little help from you…” and events throughout the week aim to raise funds to support British Red Cross projects both in the UK or overseas.
The store opened fifteen years ago and has been selling a variety of products ever since, from clothes and toys to ornaments and DVDs. It has proved popular with the town and has gone from strength to strength.

This year’s theme for Red Cross Appeal Week – 2 – 8 May – is “With a little help from you…”. The Appeal Week seeks to raise funds to support British Red Cross projects both in the UK or overseas. All projects bring help to people vulnerable in a crisis – such as those in the UK whose lives are disrupted by fire or flooding, people who have no-one to look after them when discharged from hospital, or those affected by disasters overseas.
