Go Direct With Council Tax

By on August 21, 2010

Households that don’t currently pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit and new residents to the area are being targeted with leaflets that are based on the Creature Comforts series. Direct Debit allows a Council Tax bill to be spread over 10 months, with the monthly amounts deducted from your bank account.

Instalments are normally due on the 1st of each month but Direct Debit offers a flexible choice of six dates to pay, allowing a person to choose one that suits. Time and money is saved on payment journeys, cheques and stamps. The scheme also avoids the hassle of reminders and extra costs.

More than 110,000 Cheshire East residents use Direct Debit for Council Tax and each household that uses Direct Debit saves the council £10 in administration costs. The leaflets provide all the information needed, including a phone number to set up your Direct Debit and a postal application form.

To complement the leaflets, posters will be displayed across Cheshire East and there are details on the Council website – www.cheshireast.gov.uk

Councillor Peter Mason, Cabinet member with responsibility for HR,  procurement assets and shared services said: “The Direct Debit scheme benefits both residents and Cheshire East Council. It offers a simple stress-free way for people to pay their bill and it also saves the Council money during these tough economic times.

“Hopefully these leaflets will clearly explain the Direct Debit system and encourage more people to sign up to it.”
