Knutsford Christmas Market Goes from Strength to Strength

By on November 23, 2010

While this may be Knutsford’s first ever Christmas Market, it’s clear that it’s something that residents, retailers and local producers have all been waiting for!

“We’ve had a magnificent response to this event so far!” says Sarah Flannery, one of the organisers. “In fact, it’s been so popular that we’ve extended the size of the event in front of Allen & Appleyard so we can fit in more stalls.

“It’s not only residents and stall holders who are excited however, the retailers and restaurateurs are also delighted at the prospect of bringing more visitors to the town and many are planning special late opening events themselves.”

The Christmas Market has been organised to help some of Cheshire’s smaller producers and crafts-makers showcase their wares, and to help local charities get closer to the communities they support, giving them the opportunity to explain what they do and what help they need to continue their priceless work.

Six charities or local groups have been given a free space within the market, including East Cheshire Hospice, Cheshire Wildlife Trust, Venture Over Ward, Knutsford Lions and Over Ward Residents Association, where volunteers will provide information to visitors and can answers questions about how people can help with financial support or by just giving their time.

Volunteers from The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust will also be at the Christmas Market, seeking to raise funds for this life-changing charity. Year round CAFT provides holidays and activities for terminally ill, chronically sick, disabled and disadvantaged children from all over the Northwest and Christmas is a particularly poignant time for everybody connected with CAFT, as they work hard to raise funds to run their Christmas Parties, where Santa delights children of all ages with a special gift – sadly sometimes the first time they’ve received a present from Santa.

The Market will be officially opened by Jennifer James, a Patron of CAFT along with her partner Lee Boardman. Jennifer has said she’s thrilled to be involved with this event and delighted that CAFT has been adopted by the Knutsford Christmas Market for its inaugural event.
