“Magic of the Musical” – a tribute to a well-loved friend
On Friday 27th May, at Northwich Memorial Hall, three local Amateur Theatre groups will pay tribute to a well-loved friend and fellow performer, Mrs Anne Hooker.
Amateur theatre was a big part of Anne’s life. She met her husband, Roy, when they both played the lead roles in South Pacific back in 1964. Both of them enjoyed many happy times on stage and later Anne turned to other roles, including producing. In Knutsford, Anne produced many shows with Knutsford Musical Theatre Company.
One of the most memorable has to be “My Fair Lady”, where the Company had to start rehearsals in a car park because the rehearsal room was not open. Anne organized them all with her megaphone which was an unforgettable part of her unique producing style. Although Anne appeared on stage many times for Mid-Cheshire AOS, she was never on stage at Knutsford. However, there was a memorable performance in “King & I”, when she had to sing the lead role from the wings when the leading lady lost her voice before the performance.
As well as her love of Theatre, Anne was involved in many local causes and charities. She was a Vale Royal Borough Councillor for 14 years, and was Mayor in 2004. Her chosen charity for that year was The Neuromuscular Centre in Winsford. Proceeds from the concert will be going to this charity.
“Magic of the Musicals” is the first collaboration between three groups that Anne worked with over the years. Mid-Cheshire, Zodiac and Knutsford Theatre groups. She would be very proud to see them coming together. It has songs from the shows that Anne produced over the years including “My Fair Lady”, “The King and I”, “Oklahoma”.
This is a one-off show, and will be a great evenings entertainment, starting at 7:30pm. Tickets are £8, please phone 01606 76113. For more details see website www.kmtc.org.uk.
