ONE of the country’s top chefs based in Cheshire will create a celebratory sandwich to mark two special birthdays at this year’s Cheshire County Show.

Brian Mellor, award winning Master Chef of Great Britain and former Head Chef at the BBC and Executive Chef at Granada TV, will put together a sandwich to mark the 125th anniversary of local, family owned business Roberts Bakery and the 250th anniversary of the sandwich.

“I was delighted when I was asked to come up with a sandwich using Roberts delicious bread to celebrate their 125 birthday and the 250 anniversary of the sandwich,” said Brian Mellor.

“The Cheshire show is all about supporting local food producers and I enjoyed looking through some of the old sales ledgers and other archive documents supplied by Roberts Bakery for inspiration to make sure my design reflected the history of this proud Cheshire bakery.

“The sandwich is one of the nation’s favourite foods and I’m looking forward to sharing my recipe with visitors at the Cheshire Show,” Brian added.

Brian, who also runs a cookery school in Tattenhall, will be showing the public how to make the sandwich during a live cookery demonstration in the Food Live Theatre on Tuesday, June 19.

Roberts Bakery is proudly supporting the show for a seventh consecutive year and will be the principal sponsor of the popular Food Hall and Food Live Theatre.

“To have one of the top chef’s in the country design a sandwich using Roberts bread, that will be shared with the thousands of visitors at the Cheshire Show is a true celebration of this special anniversary year for our company,” said Sarah Tipton, from Roberts Bakery.

Brian will be amongst a list of top food experts from across the North West giving live cookery demonstrations showing how to produce a range of delicious dishes in this area.

Over a hundred food producers from Cheshire and across the UK are also expected to display tasty treats for the public to enjoy.

Executive director of the Cheshire Show Nigel Evans said: “I’m sure the crowds will enjoy the chance to see Brian Mellor create his special sandwich for Roberts Bakery and the array of other talented chefs doing live demonstrations over the two days of the show.

“Cheshire is a county that loves its food and we would like to thank Roberts Bakery for their continued support of the Food Hall and Food Live Theatre, which is undoubtedly one of the most popular attractions at the Cheshire County Show.”
