The Mayors Ball 2013
Knutsford Town Mayor, Vivien Davies held her Charity Ball on Friday March 22nd at the Cottons, Knutsford. The evening is the highlight of the civic calendar and a golden opportunity for the Mayor to raise money for their chosen charities.
Mayors from Sandbach, Congleton, Winsford and Middlewich, and the Chairman of Alsager Town Council joined the Mayor, Town and Borough Councillors and representatives from Community Groups as well as former town councillors for a three course meal and entertainment.
In the short speech the Mayor gave thanks to the people of Knutsford for their participation in what has been a busy year for the town taking place in some less than clement weather. Vivien thanked all the Councillors for their work in the community, and the Deputy Mayor, Barbara Coan, for all her help in the year. She went on to thank the two Mayor’s Secretaries of her Civic Year, Val Gresley-Jones and Helen Dytham for their expert assistance.
The Mayor acknowledged the limited time she had had to spend with husband, family and friends this past year and thanked them for their understanding. It had been an interesting year for both the Mayor and her husband John as consort; and Vivien thanked her husband for being by her side at events and adding a touch of humour when needed.
Vivien said of the evening “The Cottons Hotel helped make the evening a great success and they provided a delicious meal which was enjoyed by all the guests. The MC in his red jacket added to the fun of the evening, and did a wonderful job at the auction for the prizes.”
Entertainment was provided by Victoria Dougall and the Nightbreakers.
The Mayor would like to extend thanks to all the businesses who contributed to the evening by providing items for the Auction, which raised £850. Auction items included:
- Sapphire and Silver Necklace from Clarity Jewellers
- Sunglasses worth £250 from Wendy Diddams Opticians
- Private Perfume Party from Pulse of Perfumery
- A cocktail master class for four from Gusto
- £40 voucher for Loch Fyne
- Bouquet of flowers from Knutsford Bloom
- 2 champagne flutes from Polished Glass
- A painting by local artist John Wriggles
Businesses also contributed items for the Grand Draw, which raised a further £385. This included donations from Roberta, Stationery House, Steve Edwards Electrical, Broadbents, La Boutique D’Or, Cappelli and Woods Butchers.
All guests also received a unique table favour of a unique selection of scents prepared by Pulse of Perfumery.
Taking into account donations, and additional fundraising activities on the night, the ball raised around £1800 towards the Mayor’s Charities; this will be added to the sum raised over numerous fundraising events the Mayor has organised throughout the civic year and presented to the charities in April.
With the end of Vivien’s year as Mayor coming to a close in May, she added “I would like to give thanks to the people of Knutsford and surrounding areas for their invitations to events across the year. It has been both a pleasure and honour and an experience I will never forget.”
