Young gymnasts go to Gymfinity and beyond
A group of seven budding gymnasts from Knutsford based gymnastics club Gymfinity dazzled at the Cheshire and Merseyside Grades, with six of them winning a place in the North West Gymnastic Association’s regional finals.
The Gymfinity girls, all aged eight and nine, were competing against more than 70 other female gymnasts at the event, held on March 1 and 2 at Liverpool’s gymnastics club.
Olivia Seddon, Elsa Jackson, Maggie Thompson, Milana Marsden-Taylor, Emma Routes and Jasmine Wilson all won a place in the North West regional finals, which will be held on the 5th and 6th of April. Mia Platt, meanwhile, entered the Grade 13 in age category and passed with a distinction.
Olivia, Elsa, Maggie and Jasmine were entered into the Grade 14 in age category and all won a place in the Cheshire and Merseyside team – something which has never been done by one club before.
The girls train up to 15 hours a week at Gymfinity in Knutsford, which specialises in Women’s Artistic gymnastics under the guidance of head coach Ruth Chapman and coach Christina Duckers.
Ruth said: “I’m really proud of all the girls and of their coach for all their hard work, commitment and achievements at the event. The club has only been open for a few years so for us to achieve this is unbelievable, especially without a purpose built facility. It just shows what hard work and determination can do.”
Christina said: “The girls have worked so hard over the past year to achieve such an amazing outcome. We went to the competition with the aim to pass the grade, so the fact that every gymnast entered from the club passed with distinction and that we have gymnasts representing Cheshire and Merseyside in every category we entered is amazing.”
Sophie Seddon, mother of Olivia, said: “I and all the other parents are so proud of our girls for what they have achieved at such a young age. They couldn’t have done it without the coaches, who have been brilliant over the past year and have got them to where they are today.”
