Charity to hold celebration of local food
The evening will include an update on the Mapping Local Food Webs projectthat has been going on in Knutsford, and the presentation of the CPRE Cheshire “Buy Local Food” Awards.
Knutsford was chosen as the pilot location in the North West for the Big Lottery funded Mapping Local Food Web project, instigated by the CPRE and as part of the Making Local Food Work Programme.
This project is part of a national drive by the CPRE to study local food webs, with a view to improving the accessibility of local, freshly produced food to local communities.
The CPRE Cheshire “Buy Local Food” Awards were set up last summer to celebrate and recognise the fantastic work of local producers and retailers who are supplying the community with great quality local food. CPRE Cheshire will be giving out 5 awards on the night, and are hoping that the winners will be able to attend to accept their award.
CPRE are hoping to attract as many producers and retailers of local food as possible, and are also planning to have samples of local produce for people to try.
The night is also being seen as an opportunity for people to meet the farmers and producers who grow the food they eat, and for producers and retailers to meet each other.
“The evening will be fun and informative, with a delicious selection of locally sourced treats for people to sample. The mapping project has been a wonderful experience, and the local volunteers who have done the work have uncovered some really interesting stories and information about the local food web in the area”, said Helen Meade, Regional Coordinator of the project.
Everyone is welcome. It is taking place at The Cranford Suite, Knutsford Civic Centre, Toft Rd, Knutsford on Tuesday June 16th, 7-9pm.
