Knutsford came two wickets short of a victory in a tight fought scrap with Table topping Offerton

Captain Adam Clayton won the toss and batted, however both openers were back in the shed early and Knutsford were struggling on 15-2. Zain Ali & Adnan Shafiq engineered a recovery with a solid 66 run partnership.

The dismissal of Ali bought in Knutsford ledged Adam Elleray who set about a demolition job on the Offerton bowling.

Aided by Shafiq the two powered to a 86 run partnership with Ellery contributing 56 (2 sixes 3 fours) Shafiq powered to yet another fifty and ended with 67.

Some late order hitting from Andy McKeith & John Sheldon led Knutsford to an imposing looking 217-6.

Offerton captain (and league top run scorer) started like a house on fire and took a liking to the Knutsford bowling – however a stunning delivery from the reliable Sheldon dismissed him for 49 and led to thoughts of a Knutsford victory.

Sheldon (3-34), Clayton (2-45) bowled well without much luck and Knutsfords fielding was its usual mix of brilliant (Adnan Shafiq taking a stunning catch in the slips and Keeper Elleray with a brilliant run out when facing tin the opposite direction) and average with a few opportunities missed.

In the end an intelligent 56 not out from Downes led Offerton to safety and leave Knutsford in 3rd place 4 points behind Offerton and 16 behind league leaders Eastham.
