Done over by Dendy
Poynton can consider themselves desperately unlucky not to have got anything from this encounter as they dominated the match particularly in the first half restricting Dendy to one sight of goal in the opening half hour.
Dan Moult in goal for Poynton made a fine save from Matty Martin’s low drive. It was Martin involved again barely four minutes later as his long throw resulted in Chris Shepherd bundling the ball over the line . It was a goal the hosts barely deserved but parity was restored before half time as Ewen MacKinnen finished off a delightful counter attacking move down the left heading powerfully home past Rob Tilley.
At half time Dendy manager Paul Cronshaw pulled off the hardworking but ineffectual Matt Stott and replaced him with the pace of young Simon Nicholson, it worked and despite excellent performances from Poyntons’ midfield general MacKinnon and full back Chris Rashleigh eventually Dendy’s pressure told as they scored twice in the last five minutes to steal the game.
James Curbishley made it 2-1 and Simon Nicholson capped a fine second half with number three. Handshakes all round after the game but it was scant reward for Poynton who remain second from bottom.
