In the game of the day second place Mary Dendy took on third place Wilmslow Sports who had already inflicted a heavy defeat on Paul Cronshaw’s men earlier in the season running out 7-3 winners when the sides met at Jim Evison Fields.

Without seven first team regulars Dendy  had the dream start scoring after only three minutes when Luke Watkin pounced on a mistake  by the Wilmslow keeper to give the home side the lead against the run of play.

Wilmslow dominated possession but despite some great approach play their finishing was woeful.

Dendy worked tirelessly to get the ball back and hit them on the break On thirty six minutes they made it 2-0 when Matt Morris  and Neil Hodkinson both rose at the far post for the same ball and Morris got the better of his team mate to head home.

As chances went begging Wilmslow began to get frustrated but they did get back in the game early in the second half when Andy Hume launched a free kick  from inside his own half  and the Dendy defence could only stand and watch as Steve Dootson gratefully volleyed home unmarked  from eight yards.

Both sides should have added to their score but it was substitute Josh Wilkinson who finally secured the points smashing the ball into the roof of the net from ten yards following a melee in the Wilmslow penalty area.
