Egerton won the League Cup Final
Egerton started as underdogs against the League Champions but got off to a flying start with a goal in the second minute from Wall after an excellent cross from Clawson. Egerton continued to play some good football but Frodsham gradually fought their way back and both evenly matched teams continued to provide us with a show of some superb football on the full sized pitch .
Egerton's defence were resilient as Frodsham pressed forward with Hart and Dunham relishing and winning the physical battle whilst showing great assurance on the ball. The 2 full-backs , Stanton and Robinson continued their superb seasons with displays of power and aggression.
In midfield McGrath gave one of his best performances of the year in nullifying the main Frodsham playmaker whilst providing his trademark crosses. Downing continuously probed looking for the pass to break through the Frodshan defence . Mountney was tireless operating on both flanks giving his usual captains performance. Moore worked hard on the right wing helping the team in defence and when going forward was a constant threat .
Fodsham's persistence paid off when they equalised in the 25th minute after some good work from their forward and the teams went in all -square at half-time . Nuttall and Williams came on to provide some fresh legs and the game continued to be as enthralling as the first half . At this stage Lasham - the keeper had a to head a pass back off his own goal line!
With five minutes to go the supporters now felt that extra-time was in the offing but from a McGrath free-kick and again some excellent work from man-of-the match Clawson , Nuttall ghosted in to score the winner.
Eventually after what seemed like an eternity the whistle finally blew for a famous Egerton victory . Witter was an unused sub on the day but had given important performances allowing the team to reach the cup final.
The victory was a triumph for the whole squad , which all 14 players deserve to be proud of .
