Crushing 7-74 defeat for Holmes Chapel
Holmes Chapel 2nds 7
League leaders Bowdon were the visitors to station road on Saturday in what was always going to be chapel 2nds toughest home game of the season. The visitors started well and showed their class as they let the rugby do the talking, fine interplay between forwards and backs led to several first half tries.
Chapel were spirited in their defence, Sam Chambers leading from the front and captain Steve Hatton doing his best to stem the flow in the midfield. Chapel did create some good ball, Paul Cooke driving the pack forward, but it was to no avail as Bowdon went in at the beak 40 points to the good.
Chapel knew they had to up their game in the second half and the fighting spirit they’ve showed all season came through, Joe Maddock capping another performance with chapel’s only try, duly converted by Andy Fyffe. Bowdon continued to play very impressive rugby; they were clearly a well drilled outfit with to much for chapel in the end.
A few scores in the last few minutes made the score line a little heavier than perhaps Chapel deserved, but despite the loss, Chapel can learn from the experience and take it forward to there fixture with Crewe and Nantwich.
