The French: they're coming, to a pitch near you.
Knutsford's twin town Montmorency combined with three other french villages send in their under 19's troops to do battle with Knutsford Rugby Club's U19 opposing force but will this historical event be masked by the May Day celebrations?
On Saturday May 2nd Knutsford Rugby Club will play host to a visiting colts touring side from France. The team are from the town of Montmorency and they are bringing a squad of 48 players. The French side is a joint venture between three clubs Domont, Montmorency and Soisy. However, the visitors are tipped to provide a stern test of the Knutsford team so support in required pitchside.
Knutsford have extended an invitation to Rochdale Rugby club to take part in this prestigious event and they have agreed to send a team. There will be two games of rugby played on Saturday from 12.00.
Although a poorly chosen day in the Knutsford events calendar, the weekend represents another chapter in the growth and development of the rugby club marking its first fixture at colts level at the end of its fifth season. The club will be entering a team into the Halbro North West Colts League at under 17 for the 2009/10 season.
Knutsford Rugby Club would also like to thank Knutsford Town Council who has generously provided £450 to help entertain our French visitors. The team will arrive in Knutsford on Friday May 1st and there will be a reception for them at the Rugby Club and they will return to France on Sunday May 3rd.
