Knutsford eventually overcame Parkonians with a blitzing second half performance.

By on December 9, 2009

This Cheshire plate contest got underway with an atmosphere you would expect from the game which was a meaningless fixture with both sides already out of the cup. The first half had very little of note until just on the stroke of half time there was a fracas between Knutsford’s normally mild mannered veteran centre Lockett and a Park prop – both men seeing yellow.

The half time team talk from captain Mooney seemed to kick the Knutsford men into action and they began to dominate around the park. The pressure started to tell on Park and they gave away a number of penalties. Mooney took advantage with a well taken kick from just inside the Park half to get the scoreboard moving.

Knutsford then moved up a gear and scored 3 quick tries. First, after a number of pick and go’s the ball came out the line and went through the hands of Maxwell, James and Lockett before Crawford finished in the corner. Then James danced through to score off a quick tap penalty from Mooney and finally Fishburne finished off the scoring after some solid work from the pack.

This was a positive performance from Knutsford, with a good mix of experienced and young players combining well in the second half. Fishburne, Higgins, Perry and Robertson in the pack, Clawson, James, Crawford and Jones in the backs all with very strong performances. These shall hopefully be carried through to next week when they take on Helsby at home in the league. Kick off 2.30pm.
