Prenton too strong for Knutsford

By on January 25, 2010

Prenton started brightly, and quickly took the lead with 3 points, after a dubious penalty decision from the referee. Their lead increased shortly after, when their openside broke 3 poor tackles from Knutsford to score under the posts.

Prenton then extended their lead with another try to put them 15 points ahead with only fifteen minutes gone, but Knutsford finally woke up and responded themselves. The ball was played out to the backs, and after Maxwell broke through the line, he fed Jones who put Hamilton in on the corner.

Knutsford then pressed on again, and with Prenton defending their try line, a Knutsford pass went astray and was intercepted by the Prenton winger, who ran the length of the pitch to score under the posts.

The second half was much the same as the first, with Knutsford showing signs of positive play in patches. However, with the Prenton set piece much stronger and better drilled, the Knutsford defence was being constantly put under pressure and as a result they leaked further tries and penalties.

Knutsford notched up one try in the second half, when after a prolonged period of attack on the Prenton line, the ball went down the blindside and Heaney finished off in the corner. From an near impossible angle, James slotted the conversion.

Knutsford will look to stop the rot on Saturday when they travel to Ellesmere Port, kick off 2.30pm.
