Knutsford win battle, Chapel win war.
Knutsford’s attempt to get back to winning ways took a blow on Saturday against local rivals Holmes Chapel.
The home side got off to a strong start and dominated both territory and possession from the start. Up front Knutsford were dominating in the scrum, and with Crawford returning at 13, the backs were looking threatening and lively. Chapel looked edgy and could not settle into their game.
Despite the Knutsford dominance, Chapel took the lead after their kicker converted his 2nd attempt of the day, and the away side would go further ahead with a converted try following a Knutsford error.
Knutsford then upped their game again, and after some fantastic work in the loose from their pack, the ball was flashed out the line for Crawford to finish off in the corner. Mooney’s conversion attempt was just wide of the mark.
Moments later, the Knutsford backline broke again, this time from their own try line, with Crawford running almost the length of the pitch but stalled just short of the line.
Half Time Knutsford 5 Holmes Chapel 10
Knutsford’s momentum was reduced after the restart, and this was impacted further when they were reduced to 14 men. With the Chapel pack clearly becoming frustrated with the pressure they were under at the set piece, they resorted to their fists and a mass brawl ensued. Chapel were left with 4 men on the deck and a sin bin for their No8. Knutsford’s No3 Owen was harshly shown red for retaliation.
This left Knutsford vulnerable up front and Chapel took advantage of this and ran in a try to extend their lead. With the last play of the game, Chapel drove over, and despite being short of the line the try was awarded to leave a flattering scoreline to the winners in what was a closely fought contest.
Knutsford have a lot of positives to take from the game. Tremendous performances from Paige in both the scrum and the loose, andonce again Robertson dominated the lineout. James had a solid game at 10, Crawford showed what the team have been missing over the last few weeks, and Jones produced some trademark charges up the field. The sending off changed the shape of the game, and Knutsford can only wonder what might have been had the referee not been so harsh against them in his analysis following the fracas.

Pathetic!!!
The Punch which sadly lead to a broken nose was not thrown by Rhino and had no influence on the sending off.
The red card may have been deserved but punishment for the fight was not dealt equally. As the first blows were dealt on the floor by Holmes Chapel players, a point which the referee accepted.
The sending off occurred with 50 minutes played and the with Holmes Chapel leading 10-5. While reduced to 14 Knutsford conceded 2 converted tries.
Knutsford played better after the red card and in time will become a good side as they have some promising young players.
However, reports like this will be pinned in the opposition changing rooms to motivate teams for future fixtures, so it may be some years before they have anything really worth writing about.
For your information the final score of Kuntsford 5 Holmes Chapel 24 seemed to have been omitted from the report
Unfortunately I can't paste a picture of a bridge but I'm sure you can all GET OVER IT

It a shame that Knutsford RUFC is seen only by the view of the chap who writes the report as most of them seem like good guys but this just makes them look very bitter. From what I remember of him playing at either 6 or 12, he is pretty poor so maybe thats why he is so bitter. Shame really. He will have certainly given the HC players plenty of motivation for the next time they meet, thats if HC don't go up obviously.
Had you have really known what had happened, you would have been aware that it was not the player who was sent off that broke the players nose.
J Stevens:
A try (or tie as you like to call it) is a try when awarded by the referee, not when your players in one case claim they did not drop the ball on the line, or indeed in the other case when they are held up on the line.

When you are man enough to record your own name i'll respond.
In Maxwell we Trust: I sincerely hope you do go up and would wish you all the best in either league next season.
Bryan: The referee sent the offending KRFC player off for RETALIATION which is right and proper, but for some one to retaliate would imply that it was the HC player who struck first and the sin binning of a HC player which you have negleted to mention by the way would seem to bear this out.
With a record of 8 yellow and 1 red card so far this year I find it difficult to stomach your righteuos indignation in what was a sorry display from both teams.
Perhaps we should all take a valuable lesson from this that "Violence begets violence"
I wish the injured players all the best in a speedy recovery. Please ask yourself however why the two that got injured weren't involved in or anywhere near the held up try?? Perhaps because they got involved after??
P.s the over use of the semi colon in the report is shameful. 6/10 must try harder.
