Knutsford's juniors take on local rivals
Knutsford v. Wilmslow (Under 8s) Knutsford played Wilmslow this Sunday, fielding two teams in a mini series of four matches.
Conditions were fair but wet underfoot and both teams enjoyed the opportunity to get very muddy!
In spite of the conditions, Knutsford played well, keeping the ball in hand where possible and looking to force handling mistakes from their opponents. Josh Wyatt was player of the week, scoring a number of opportunist tries, which resulted from Wilmslow errors. He also impressed the crowd with two interceptions from within the Knutsford half, which both resulted in Knutsford tries. Matthew Flint fought off the cold, to give an impressive performance in defence, putting his opponents under pressure from each restart.
In parallel, on the other pitch, Knutsford put in another very committed performance exemplified by some robust defending from both Patrick Brogan and John Bolton. Strong running from both Tom Nanda (through the middle) and Louis Thomas (out wide) yielded several tries and could have resulted in more if it wasn’t for the occasional tendency to dive for the line; not surprising in the conditions but nonetheless still discouraged in mini-rugby.
In all the series ended in a draw with Knutsford winning 2 games of the 4 played.
