The 27th ASICS Wilmslow Half Marathon will be run on Sunday 27th March 2011 at Wilmslow Rugby Club with the race starting at 10.30am.
For the third year running, the race has the added prestige of incorporating the England Half Marathon Championships. The added endorsement to this ever popular and prestigious race guarantees that the cream of England’s elite distance runners will again race the leafy lanes of Wilmslow and Mobberley.
Some like 2010 champion Andy Jones, Thomas Abyu and three times lady champion Michelle-Ross Cope have used the event as a spring board to European, World or Commonwealth games championships.
Gareth Raven from Sale finishing second in 2010 and Dave Norman from Altrincham in sixth can both boast international appearances and will surely want to improve on last years positions.
Total prize money totals £11,000 and runners who want to race and compete with the best need to enter fast: Traditionally all 4,000 places have been snapped up by Christmas and 2011 will be no different.
Entries are accepted either on line or by postal applications. Entry forms can be downloaded from race website http://www.wilmslowhalf.org.uk/entryform.htm.
Entry forms can also be obtained from the “Running Bear” shop in Alderley Edge.
While elite runners compete for championship honours, the race itself raises tens of thousands of pounds for charities as runners pound the streets for their own chosen charity, many with very personal reasons.
This year the chosen lead charity for the race is Macmillan Cancer support.
To be able say “I have run the Asics Wilmslow Half Marathon”, enter fast and start those all important training programmes. It is not every week you get to compete with the countries elite sports men and women.
