Telephone scammers posing as police

Recently we had two incidents reported to police, one in Knutsford and one in Wilmslow, whereby calls were received from a male purporting to be a detective from Leeds Police.
The purpose of his call was to advise them that a male had been detained by the police who was in possession of their credit card details.When the recipients became suspicious the male advised them to ring 901 and gave them a reference number of 329AC
Yesterday, a report came into police that a female in the Knutsford area had fallen for this scam which resulted in £2000 being taken from her bank account. Please warn neighbours especially the elderly regarding this incident.
