Moving On Up
Knutsford 2nd XI entertained Crewe Vagrants 2nd XI on Saturday at Westfield Drive hoping to build upon their recent run of good form, not having lost since the 24th January. Crewe could at the end of the game have felt aggrieved given the amount of possession that they had and certainly the number of short corners. However, Knutsford’s junior Goalkeeper Matt ‘Guiseppe’ Robbins kept the team in the game on numerous occasions with some fabulous saves and was duly awarded with the Man of the Match award.
Knutsford soaked up a lot of pressure from the Crewe attack but against the run of play scored to make it 1-nil to the home side. Davies won the ball in the midfield, passed it to Fielding who dribbled past the Vagrants defence but his shot was saved. Luckily Hickson was on hand to pick up the re-bound and place the ball in the back of the goal.
In the second half Knutsford again soaked up pressure, both goalkeeper and defence (Higgs, Moss, Anderson and Jones) standing firm together. Knutsford then made is 2-nil with a successful short corner routine, whilst the initial shot was saved, Chris ‘Wiggy’ Drake was on hand to sweep in the deflection and make it 2 weeks in a row of scoring – unheard of!
With about 10 mins to go Crewe were justly rewarded for their efforts to make the score 2-1 and give the Knutsford team a rollercoaster ride until the end of the game. They managed to hold to get 3 well earned points and another victory that moves them up the table.
