Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a teenager was assaulted following a robbery in Macclesfield.

At approximately 2am on Monday 17 December a 16-year-old boy, from Liverpool, was chased by a number of offenders near the Fountain Street area.

When the offenders caught up with him they stole his mobile phone and assaulted him causing a serious injury to his face.

The victim was taken to Macclesfield Hospital by ambulance and has since been released.

Detective Sergeant Matt Ashton, of Macclesfield CID, said: “We are continuing to piece together exactly what happened during the early hours and how the teenager came to suffer a nasty attack.

“I am appealing directly to the local community to come forward with any information – no matter how small which could help us identify those responsible.”
