High Legh Tennis Club sees record year for junior tennis

By on April 6, 2019

High Legh Tennis Club in Cheshire has been ever growing over the last two and half years under Head of Tennis, Emma Silcock.

Winter 2019 has seen a record year for junior tennis at HLTC with 16 teams having competed in red, orange, green and full yellow ball in Cheshire County winter league competitions.

Following on from team success last winter and summer seasons, this winter 2019 brought with it an utterly amazing achievement.

As a Junior section High Legh managed to get into the finals of 5 different age group categories of the Cheshire County Point One Winter Tennis competition.

Furthermore, having achieved a place in the final, they managed to win all five, something unprecedented in the County competition.

The results were as follows:

Mini red:

Winners – High Legh

Runners up – Brooklands

Mini Orange:

Winners – High Legh

Runners up – Widnes Tennis Academy

Mini Green:

Winners – High Legh

Runners up – David Lloyd Cheshire Oaks

Girls U12:

Winners – High Legh

Runners up – High Legh

Boys U12:

Winners – High Legh

Runners up – David Lloyd Cheshire Oaks

Worth note is the Girls Under 12 finals was actually contested between High Legh 1 and High Legh 2!! So we were also runners up.

This fantastic achievement is due reward for a club who actively promotes and supports junior tennis, providing a supportive, safe and fun environment for the juniors to develop and enjoy tennis.

This is only possible due to the magnificent all year round coaching program run by Head of Tennis Emma Silcock and her coaching team.

Emma said: ”We are all incredibly proud of the achievements of the juniors and the successful program at the club that has helped bolster our membership from 64 in 2016 to 154 in 2019, over 50% being Juniors, not bad for a 3 court club with limited facilities and finances. At our core is being a friendly and supportive local facility, providing access to tennis for all, with a large spoonful of fun. Huge thanks also must go to the support of club Chairman Matt Bannon and all the committee”!
