New homes needed for Cheshire hens

By on April 27, 2019

Animal welfare charity FSFH is looking for people to help them rehome hens who were destined for the slaughterhouse.

They have 2,400 hens needing homes from Saturday 1st June 2019, from their collection point in Crewe.

FSFH works with farms to reach rehoming agreements for hens and ask for a minimum donation of £2.50 per hen to cover costs of feed, fuel and other rehoming expenses.

Sarah Thornton, from FSFH said: “The hens are collected from the farms by a team of volunteers early in the morning. They are then driven to collection points throughout the UK and rehomed the same day, these collection points are also run by volunteers. They ask for pictures of your chicken coop, run and free-range area so that they know they are going to good retirement homes.”

Fresh Start for Hens (FSFH) are looking to rehome 5,700 hens in July and another 5,700 in September.
