McDonalds finally make a stand in Knutsford
McDonalds™ could soon open a franchise restaurant at the top of the new Regent Street development. Plans are currently being reviewed for approval for the development of the currently empty Second Elegance, but are set to get the go ahead after agreeing to a scheme that compliments Knutsford and its history for being a food town.
The Second Elegance building is itself listed, so the final design will need to be sympathetic to the structure. McDonalds™ has a history of developing their restaurants sympathetically and plans for the building will need to be low key and in keeping with the town.
McDonalds™ has been trying to change it’s image to reflect trends in dining and consumer concerns for some years and is always keen to listen to local views about it’s proposals. A public consultation is planned for the coming months but McDonalds™ and the Planning Authority are not anticipating much opposition from the town.
Potential manager Daved Sanchezi said “That place has looks awful, what better location for a McDonalds™ Franchise, it will smarten that mess up and bring some cheap eating into the town”. Daved, who lives 40 miles away visited Knutsford last week for the first time before taking on the role as Manager. “There are a lot of posh people here, but everyone likes a burger or two”
However, not all Regent Street traders are happy about the arrival of the food giant. “I can’t believe that this would happen in Knutsford, we just wont be able to compete with the quality and standard that they will offer” said Via Via owner Mr. Merolle. His restaurant is located just yards from the proposed venue and has been serving high quality food since it opened its doors in March 2008.
History and change:
McDonalds™ have been working hard to change their image to a more healthier style of eating. Their current range of foods now includes: Chicken Salads served either grilled or crispy and with a choice of Caesar or Balsamic dressing, Chicken and Bacon Deli™ Sandwich made with grilled chicken breast, smoked bacon, tomato slices, crisp lettuce and a garlic and herb dressing all served in a delicious toasted deli roll, along with other items including Veggi Deli™ and Sweet Chilli Chicken,
Here are some interesting facts about McDonalds™ that most consumers are not aware of.
- The 10,000 tonnes of flour used in the buns comes from UK grown sources
- The bacon used is British and not imported
- Iceberg – In season predominantly sourced from farms in East Anglia and Sussex.
- McDonalds™ are the Official Presenting Partner for The Community Shield
- Sir Geoff Hurst MBE, Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, Pat Jennings OBE & Eric Harrison are McDonalds™ Sports Ambassadors
The news of the new store will undoubtedly bring much needed visitors into the town and onto Regent Street and Princess Street. If it were true, which it isn’t, so happy April fools.
