The Knutsford Great Race 5th September 2010
“So you want to Learn a Penny Farthing Machine?” The first hours course will be on Wednesday 23rd September 09 at 1800hrs, meeting at the Knutsford Village Gate of Tatton Park. We the Knutsford Great Race 2010 organisers will provide the machines, training and cycle hats.
All we ask of the trainees is that they come dressed appropriately, with good strong shoes, robust trousers that can be clipped or tucked into long socks and an equally strong top. The cost of this different evening out is just £10.00, which will go to help pay some of the running costs for the Great Race, to be held on Sunday 5th September 2010.Infact if you really take to this fascinating sport…you might like to consider entering the Great Knutsford Race yourself…you still have almost a year to practise
The training sessions will be lead by that well known Penny Farthing enthusiast Mr Glynn Stockdale, who amongst many other things has a large collection of Hi-Wheel Machines and also has to his credit the not unnoteworthy claim of cycling across the USA, coast to coast on a penny farthing machine, no mean acheivement.
We are planning for the 2010 race to be the biggest and best so far, with riders/teams from across the country and from around the world including Australia, the USA and the Czech Republic. The event will be a good family Sunday afternoon, with the main event taking place around the Knutsford Moorside course, with a small period funfair for the children, punch and judy , vintage cars, riders in period coctume, food and drinks marquees will be available.
We are hoping that the whole of the town will enter into the spirit of the race in the weeks leading up to the race, with the restaurants in particular featuring special offer menus for “racegoers”.
We are currently having talks with the appropriate personality to start and finish the race, along with seeking out, in these difficult times an appropriate headline sponsor, last time in 2000 SKY TV featured the race…any offers please give me a call on 01565 755219 or e-mail me on info@daneburyapartments.co.uk
