A Date for the Doggy Diary!
The Farm’s three resident dogs extend an invitation to the sleek and the scruffy for this very special event. With ten novelty classes, from ‘Waggiest Tail’ to ‘Saddest Eyes’, ‘Best Veteran’ to ‘Best Rescue’, there’s an opportunity for every dog to strut their stuff.
Special rosettes are awarded for 1st to 6th place in each class so few doggies go home empty pawed! Hotly contested is the ‘Show Champion’ class, last year won by ‘Archie’ a beautiful greyhound from Norfolk.
Competitive canines are already clearing space in their kennels for the gleaming ‘Harry Smith Memorial Trophy’ for Show Champion. Not least amongst these are Bella (a Golden Labrador), Kip (a Border Collie) and Lyra (a Lurcher). These three farm beauties all live on site at Tatton and are owned by three Farm staff members (Alex, Jayne and Elly respectively!).
The delightful doggies, well known to all Farm visitors, have already been quality testing the ‘Fun Agility Course’. An event to really get tails wagging, this timed event features challenging weaving poles, tunnels and jumps and much more. Jayne Chapman, Farm Manager commented “This is a really popular event and although our dogs are not allowed to compete they love to take part! We must admit there is a slight element of canine competitiveness between this trio also!”
One of the hardest classes to judge and guaranteed to bring out the softest of puppy dog eyes is ‘Dog the Judge Would Most Like to Take Home’. This class gets increasingly difficult to judge as the numbers of entries increase each year. Another guaranteed crowd pleaser is ‘Best Child Handler’ open to all children under 12 years of age.
The Fun Dog Show is one of the most popular events of the year and the Farm staff’s absolute favourite. Jayne commented “This is always such a great event and it’s lovely to see our regulars returning and new dogs bringing their owners along! Our own dogs can’t wait to make some new friends!””
The Fun Dog Show takes place on Sunday 9th August from 12pm-5pm near the Farm. Park Entry charge of £4.50 applies. Only £1 entry charge per class. For more information contact Reception on 01625 374400 or the Farm on 01625 374431.
