Great Places gang transform grot spot into beauty spot
Employees from the housing group put out a ‘Greatforce’ challenge to all its neighbourhoods across the north west, offering one Groundforce-style makeover.
And local people at Longridge won the blitz for land overgrown with weeds and troubled by flytipping.
Office workers including senior managers left their desks to spend a morning clearing rubbish and weeds, levelling the land, creating pathways with trees and shrubs – with help from residents and Cheshire East councillor for Knutsford, Clr Olivia Hunter.
Greatforce representative Babette Howard said: “We wanted to take a plot of land and turn it into something really special. Of all the requests we had, this one offered the greatest potential.
“We planted pear, apple and plum trees and other plants. It looks great and will be low-maintenance to look after in future.”
The gang raised £13,000 in sponsorship from the likes of landowner Mr Qamar Parvez, local businesses Howdens Joinery and Tree Tops Nursery, Abbey Charitabel Trust and Barclays Bank Plc, contractor Rok, consultants Wilkinson Cowan and architects Triangle
