Team performance secures victory.
A combative first half provided plenty of crunching tackles as both teams battled for control. Egerton rapidly took charge in midfield and took the lead as McGrath crashed the ball home as the ball bounced around the six yard box. Williams and Wilson worked the channels well as Egerton started to pick the Tarvin defence apart.
McGrath doubled the lead as he struck the ball into the bottom corner with a crisp half-volley. In defence, Robinson comfortably dealt with any Tarvin attacks. The third goal came from another of Downing’s well flighted corners, with Weatherby rising above the defence to score with a header.
Tarvin started the second half well, but Stanton’s all action display from full back caused Tarvin problems all game. Captain Dunham excelled in defence, providing a rock solid foundation for Egerton to venture forwards. Moore’s intelligent front running combined with Downing’s clever passing created chances with Weatherby’s long range shot whistling just over the bar. Clayborough’s introduction added strength on the left while Wall and Witter provided fresh legs.
From yet another corner, Weatherby’s header was blocked on the line but he finished off the rebound with a fine flick. McGrath completed a man of the match performance with a fabulous 30 yard strike for his hat trick. Goalkeeper Lasham’s kicking had been impressive throughout and he launched a mighty kick which Mountney latched onto to complete the scoring.
Egerton U15s 6 Tarvin U15s 0
An excellent team performance from Egerton needs to be followed up in the league now that they have rediscovered their winning ways.
